The year is 321 BCE. The place is northern India. Chandragupta Maurya has conquered the great Magadha kingdom. Doing that helped to drive the Greeks out of India. Alexander the Great has died. As a result, Chandragupta has taken control of much of the Punjab region in the far north.
For the first time, a large area of India has been united under one ruler. Chandragupta has founded the Maurya Empire. He will go on to expand his empire by conquering other kingdoms and republics. Chandragupta’s son and grandson will continue to expand the Maurya Empire. Then, by around 250 BCE, it will cover nearly all of the Indian subcontinent.
