One of the biggest Ice Age mammals was the woolly mammoth. It was a close cousin to today’s Asian elephant.
Its huge body helped it keep in heat better than smaller animals. Woolly mammoths weighed up to six tons. In summer, they ate plants constantly. They had to put on a thick layer of fat to survive the cold winter.
