In 1940, four teenagers followed their dog into a cave in Lascaux, France. All over the walls, they found paintings of animals from thousands of years ago! Imagine their surprise.
Over the years, there have been similar discoveries in Spain and France. For Ice Age artists to reach these places, they had to crawl through narrow, dark tunnels. They carried torches or lamps made of stone. Animal fat was the fuel. Along the way, they risked meeting cave lions or cave bears.
