Most flowers are total showoffs, with everything about them designed to say, “Look at me! Smell me! Touch me!”
The bright colors, strong scents, and big, showy petals are all meant to attract attention—but whose attention, and why?
Every flower has just one purpose, and that is to reproduce and create new plants. Some flowers need help from bees, butterflies, and other animals. So they put on a “flower show” of color and scent to draw in helpers.
This flower show doesn’t last long, though. Within days or weeks, the blooms dry up and die. The plant keeps flowers around only long enough to do their one and only—but very important—job.
