What did you eat for breakfast today? Cereal and milk? Eggs and toast? Pancakes and sausage? Whatever you ate, you were consuming the Sun’s energy.
No food on Earth would exist without the Sun. Plants take in the Sun’s energy, and then people eat the plants. Or they eat the animals that ate the plants. One way or another, the Sun’s energy gets into us.
That energy gets into food through a process called photosynthesis. Then the food’s energy gets into people by another process, which is called digestion and absorption. Here’s how it all happens.
