Moths and butterflies have been around for a very long time. They first appeared on Earth about 200 million years ago. Back then, the Jurassic dinosaurs were still around. We humans didn’t make an appearance until about 200,000 years ago!
They go back a long time, but they don’t last a long time. The life span of an adult butterfly or moth is very, very short. A few adults live as long as 18 months, but most don’t last past two weeks. Each of them, though, goes through the biggest change known to nature. Their metamorphosis from a caterpillar into an adult is a miracle to see!
