Moths and butterflies have been around for a very long time. They first appeared on Earth about 200 million years ago. Back then, the Jurassic dinosaurs were still around. We humans didn’t show up until about 200,000 years ago!
They go back a long time, but they don’t last a long time. The life span of an adult butterfly or moth is very, very short. A few adults live as long as 18 months. Most don’t last past two weeks, though. But all of them go through the biggest change known in nature. When they transform from a caterpillar into an adult, it’s a miracle to see!
