The Olympics

For ancient Greeks, sports were more than just fun and games. They provided training for warfare and also honored the gods.

The Olympics were the most respected athletic games in the ancient Greek world. They were very intense, even deadly, and only men were allowed to join in. Athletes had to speak Greek and be of Greek descent. Athletes from all over the Greek world came to Olympia.
