Did the gardens have flowering plants, tropical palms, and trickling waterfalls?
Maybe, but some people question whether this wonder ever existed! Most descriptions of the gardens come from Greek historians who never saw them. Babylonian records of the time don’t mention them. Neither do later Greek and Roman writers. Archaeologists have searched the ruins of Babylon but found little evidence of the gardens. But we do know this much: Babylonia’s King Nebuchadnezzar II ordered them built in the sixth century B.C. to please his wife, Amytis. She missed the green, forested mountains of her homeland to the north, in Iran.
