Like their parents, most kids on the frontier had a lot of work to do. They planted crops. They churned butter. They carried water for laundry. And more. Daniel Drake was two when his parents moved to Kentucky, in 1787. By age eight, he was up before sunrise to feed the farm animals, help his dad plant crops, and help his mom make cloth. This hardworking kid still got an education, and he became a well-known frontier doctor.
