Thousands of years ago, not one person lived in all of North or South America.
Then, around 15,000 B.C., the first people arrived from Asia. Slowly, they headed south. Some settled in parts of Mexico, Central America, and South America. Later, they became known as the Maya.
From this humble start, the Maya made one of the greatest civilizations of all time. They built beautiful palaces. They invented a complicated writing system and an accurate calendar. They could even tell when an eclipse was coming!
Then, around A.D. 800, something very bad must have happened. During the next century, many Maya cities were deserted. In time, the jungle once again grew over their land.
Who were the Maya? What did they do? Travel back in time and take a look at one of the most interesting and puzzling civilizations of all time.
