Crossword:
The Changing Earth
Understanding how Earth changes builds on understanding what’s already there. And that’s exactly where this unit begins. Dramatic images of oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, and glaciers are the start. Followed by an exploration of the planet’s amazing landforms, including the shape of land on the ocean floor.
With this as a backdrop, kids are ready to explore the dynamic changes that take place – those that happen in an “instant,” like volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis, and those that are so slow as to be almost imperceptible, like weathering and erosion. Breathtaking images make these changes evident to kids, as do human strategies to slow them. In short, this unit builds kids’ understanding of how and why the earth beneath our feet is shifting.
