What do you see when you open your door and head off to school? Do you see a crowded city street with many people and cars? Do you see a quiet beach with seagulls and sand dunes? Do you see a row of homes that look just like yours?
All the living and nonliving things around you are part of your environment. The environment is made up of the physical and human features of a place. People live in many types of environments on Earth. Environment often affects where people live. Some environments have helpful physical features, or features found in nature, such as rivers. Many people make their homes there. Together, they build a community. Homes and the roads that lead to them are human features. Human features are things that people add to the landscape. Some environments are more challenging to humans. Fewer people live in those places.
