Could you make a list of all the ways computers affect your life? Maybe you could use a computer to help you!
Supercomputers can multiply and divide at the rate of more than a billion calculations per second. They solve math problems humans would work on for months or even years. In offices, they figure out how much workers earn and print their paychecks. In schools, computers store students’ records, keep track of media in the library, create class lists, and do the work of textbooks. In some homes, computers control heat, light, air-conditioning, cameras, windows, and doors. In factories, computers run machines that make everything from airplanes to zippers. In hospitals, they scan brains and locate tumors. Computers run telephones, plus cars, trains, and planes. You can’t get away from computers by leaving Earth. Astronauts use computers to keep their spaceships on course and to send information back to Earth. Computers have let us start an information avalanche, and we can’t do without them!
