The Incas were master builders. They made thousands of miles of roads to link all parts of their huge empire.
Officials traveled these roads as the eyes and ears of the Inca ruler. How did they get news from one end of the empire to the other? They created a messenger system using their roads.
The Inca builders also found ways to grow food on mountains. They made rope bridges to cross valleys. They were also good at making hillsides flatter so crops would grow on them.
