How are galaxies born? How and why do billions of stars start spinning around the same center? Does it happen all at once? Or slowly over a long time? These are big questions with lots of big answers. How do we know which answers are right?
We can watch galaxies at many stages as they are forming. It’s hard, because these galaxies are very far away.
The Hubble Space Telescope is also called the HST. It has seen fuzzy blobs that might be galaxies being born. Remember, looking at space means looking back in time. HST has seen galaxies as they were billions of years ago. Looking at many galaxies of all ages helps scientists learn how they form.
