“In fourteen hundred ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” Do you know that rhyme?
American children have been saying it for at least a hundred years. It shows what a big part the early explorers played in our history. Each voyage seemed to make the world a little bit smaller. Nations have grown and changed a lot since the first European explorers looked for a sea route to Asia. Each one had a goal and a destination in mind. They all sailed over uncharted waters to reach those places. Their journeys shaped the world. Today their legacy can still be seen—and heard.
