The explorers left behind a legacy of conquest, but that’s not all they gave the world. The movement of peoples between continents changed world cultures and ecosystems, or networks of living things.
Thanks to this cultural and biological exchange, known as the Columbian Exchange, plants and livestock from one side of the world began to flourish on the other side. In more ways than one, the world was never the same again.
