There is no universal agreement on the countries that make up Southeastern Europe. (To many, western Turkey is in this region.)
But most will agree that Southeastern Europe is home to ruins of the Roman Empire. It also has some of the oldest cities in Europe and the world. Southeastern Europe once included Yugoslavia, a large country. Political conflicts in the 1990s ended with Yugoslavia being divided into many smaller countries. These include Croatia, Serbia, and North Macedonia.
