Our planet is varied. It has deserts, rain forests, oceans, and mountains. In some places, it’s hardly ever warmer than 0°F. In other places, it rarely gets cooler than 100°F.
Some places are home to rhinoceroses. In others, you’ll find elk or polar bears or kangaroo rats. Areas with similar climates, geography, animals, and plants are called biomes. Each biome on Earth has a unique set of conditions that lets certain life forms live there. Not all scientists agree on how to divide Earth into biomes. Here’s one popular way.
