In the seventh century C.E., the prophet Muhammad started a new religion. It began in Arabia and was called Islam. The religion spread quickly in western Asia.
Around 642 C.E., Islamic Arabs defeated the Sassanians. They took over Persia. Soon, Zoroastrianism was no longer the religion of Persia. Islam had replaced it. Islam changed Persia, but Persian culture had an effect on Islam, too. The religion was influenced by Persian art and poetry. Indeed, ancient Persia left a legacy for the whole world to enjoy.
