Geography of Mexico and Central America

Shake, rattle, and roll! Mexico and Central America are fascinating areas. Here are beautiful mountains and lush rain forests. Here, too, are winding rivers and deep canyons.

They are also home to lots of volcanoes. Mexico has more than 40! Central America has even more. In fact, hundreds of volcanoes dot the fault line off the western coast of Central America.

This active volcano zone is called the Central American Volcanic Arc. It’s part of the larger volcano zone known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. The region has many active volcanoes. They include Colima in Mexico and Arenal in Costa Rica. They also include Cerro Negro in Nicaragua and Izalco in El Salvador. Fuego in Guatemala is there, too.
