Who were the Vikings? Without a doubt, they were fierce warriors, cruel conquerors, and mighty raiders.
They were also great poets and storytellers, courageous explorers, excellent sailors, and skilled shipbuilders. The Vikings lived in the countries we know today as Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Their heyday extended from the late 8th century CE to the late 11th century CE. In their search for land, gold, silver, and people to enslave, they discovered Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.
