It’s not called the king for nothing. This snake – the king cobra – is among the most poisonous on Earth. A single bite has enough venom to kill an elephant.
The king cobra is one of more than 30 different kinds of cobras. It is the only snake that builds a nest for its eggs. Cobras live in southern Africa, southern Asia, and southeast Asian islands. They all have fangs that release venom. They all hiss loudly to scare away threats. Most hunt at dawn and dusk. And all cobras can go months without eating.
