Jet engines and internal combustion engines, like those in propeller planes and cars, need oxygen to work.
That’s all fine here on Earth. But in space there’s no atmosphere, and no oxygen. A rocket engine headed for space must be completely self-contained. That means it must carry its own supply of oxygen.
