Life During the Depression
For most Americans, life changed drastically during the Great Depression. Many couldn’t find work and lost their homes.
A small percentage remained wealthy and lived just as extravagantly as they had before the Depression. But the majority of Americans survived by adapting to a lower standard of living, and they made do in many different ways. Schools had to make do with less money in the 1930s, so school systems cut back on hiring teachers and buying new books.
