The life span of an adult butterfly or moth is amazingly short, but their metamorphosis from a caterpillar into an adult is a miracle to behold!
Moths and butterflies are ancient creatures. They first appeared on Earth around 200 million years ago, when the Jurassic dinosaurs still prowled. Humans didn’t come along until about 200,000 years ago! Despite all that history, only a few adults live as long as 18 months, while most last no more than two weeks. Each of them, though, goes through the biggest change known to nature.
