Thoughtfully curated to align with grade-level curriculums, Kids Discover K-6 Social Studies is designed to provide young learners with a stimulating and engaging exploration of various historical, geographical, and cultural topics.
In Kindergarten, students will embark on an exciting journey of discovery, exploring fundamental concepts of community, family, and culture. Engaging age-appropriate materials introduce children to diverse communities and the roles individuals play within them. By delving into fascinating topics such as neighborhoods, jobs, and citizenship, young learners will begin to develop a sense of awareness about how they fit into their local community.
The 1st Grade Social Studies curriculum expands on the foundations laid in Kindergarten, introducing students to basic geographical elements, mapping skills, and the foundations of government. With a deep dive into topics such as rules and laws, goods and services, and the diversity of the American people, students will gain an understanding of social constructs and basic concepts of our economic system. These resources also help develop a sense of curiosity and historical appreciation.
In 2nd Grade, the Social Studies program delves deeper into history and culture, encouraging students to explore cultures from around the world and compare their similarities and differences. Units on location, leaders and government, and American heritage and culture build upon the foundations established with Kindergarten and Grade 1 resources. Students will also explore the interconnectedness of communities and resources, especially as it pertains to jobs, labor, and consumption.
Building upon their knowledge of communities and resources, 3rd Grade students will explore the history and geography of their own country. In addition to staples like U.S. geography and the role that maps play in understanding the world we live in, 3rd Grade students will be introduced to concepts such as saving and spending, as well as producers and consumers. An introduction to Native American history and ancient civilizations provide a basis for further learning in the upper elementary grade levels, where both subjects are explored in-depth.
The 4th Grade Social Studies curriculum focuses on U.S. geography and the system of government in the United States. Kids Discover provides interactive resources that make learning about continents and exploring the diverse regions and landmarks that make the United States unique a fun and engaging experience. With informative and visually-rich resources that cover state symbols, historical events, and influential figures, the 4th grade resources are designed to instill pride and a sense of belonging in students.
Fifth Grade students will broaden their horizons as they delve into the history of America. Beginning with an overview Native American history and culture around what is now the continental United States, and continuing with European exploration and early colonial settlements, students will unpack what it was like to live in America before the Declaration of Independence. The American Revolutionary War, the formation of the Constitution, and key historical figures such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin are covered. The program continues on with Units on the Civil War, American in the 20th Century, and the Civil Rights Movement.
The 6th Grade Social Studies curriculum focuses on world history. Through captivating visuals and engaging narratives, students will develop an understanding of the contributions made by ancient cultures to art, science, and governance. From the ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians, to Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, students will learn about the birth of advanced civilizations and their lasting impact and influence on society today. Students will also learn about the history of language, discover the civilizations of the Inca, Aztecs, and Olmec and Maya, all the way through the Renaissance and Industrial Revolution, all while being encouraged to think critically and develop informed decision-making skills.
Kids Discover Social Studies equips young minds with the knowledge, skills, and empathy needed to become engaged global citizens and contributors to society. By fostering a love for learning about the world, this program sets students on a path to lifelong curiosity and understanding of the diverse cultures and histories that shape our planet.
